Link Building Strategies in 2020

What is Redirect?

A website changes its structure, deletes its pages and it often moves from one domain to another. A redirect is the process of forwarding one URL to a different URL and it is the way to send both users and search engines to the different URL from the one they are originally requested.

It is difficult to handle the redirect and to put it in correct order as it may result in losing rankings and it helps the search engine to understand the changes the users has done to it.

There are 100 different status codes which start with number 3 such as (3XX). Very few codes are implemented.

What is meant by 301 redirect?

The 301 status code means that a page has permanently moved to a new location. If you want to change the URL of a page, then 301 redirect will help you and it is the best recommended way to ensure that users and search engines are directed to the correct page.

In HTTP 301 redirect means that the resource is temporarily relocated and the client should use the original resource URL for future requests.

The user has to be very careful before implementing 301 redirect. If you change your mind in the future and choose to remove the 301 redirect than your old URL will not rank any longer.

What is meant by 307 redirect?

In 307 redirect, the Page Rank is not passed from the original resource to the new one as it is done in the 301 redirect. It is essentially impossible to determine whether the search engine has identified a page as compatible or not, it is highly advised that one should use the 302 redirect for content as it has been temporarily moved.

What is meant by 302 redirect?

302 means the resource was found on another URL in the HTTP 1.1 version, but it was temporarily moved in HTTP 1.0. It was the only resource for what the client is looking for. In 302 status code, it is not necessary that the client should follow a redirect and it is not an error if the client stays there and make it a destination.

Meta Refresh

Meta Refresh redirects are executed on the page level rather than the server level. This technique is slower and it is not recommended as the SEO technique. Due to its poor usability and the loss of link equity passed, these are not recommended as an SEO tactic.
